Who is Adam Levine addressing in the song Memories

The song was written by Adam Levine in memory of Jordan Feldstein, his best friend and former manager. . On the broadcast of The Ellen DeGeneres Show on October 7, 2019, he said, “And he died away lately, so this song occurred to me at a very intriguing time. I filled in the blanks with the appropriate phrases that I believed would accurately describe the experience I had been having. It’s a lot heavier. I’ve never written a song about something so unique.

Jonah Hill, an actor and comedian, had an older brother named Jordan Feldstein. He was just 40 years old when he died in December 2017 from a clot of blood in his leg.

The song “Memories” meaning

Memories” are a reflection of various facets of life that we strive to retain dear and forever. The list is endless and includes things like our first kiss, our first crush, that one birthday, an embarrassing event, graduation, drinking with pals, etc. We rely on these memories to sustain us.

There is, however, a faint implication that this song is about that specific someone. You will undoubtedly run into a few lovers as you travel down memory lane with whom you had big plans for the future. The relationships that failed, the relationships that nearly succeeded, and the relationships that succeeded. Our memory discs contain permanent copies of everything we hold dear.

Maroon 5 also raises a glass in honour of those who have passed away while travelling with us and this globe. They also honour those who have gone before us and those who will accompany us on our life’s journey.

Adam Levine is speaking to a close friend on “Memories,” and it is clear that they have been apart for some time. And it is clear that he misses this person dearly. Additionally, although it might be inferred from the way the story develops that this individual is deceased, this is not necessarily the case.

Instead, it is up to the audience to put their own perspective to the song in order to determine why the person expressing these thoughts has been without a loved one for so long and therefore is now compelled to rely on “memories” of both of them being together.

Meaning of Memories song’s Choros

The chorus of the song is the first line. In this part, gratitude for the objects in our immediate environment is discussed. I’m certain that we both desire something that we do not now possess. But it’s crucial to keep in mind that we ought to be appreciative of what or who we have.

We are all aware of how fragile human life is. We experience people in our lives for a split second before they leave or move on. Finally, the memories we have of each person we meet are all that are left, and they endure as long as we do.

We may replay the memories in our thoughts as long as we make an effort to do so. How can one most effectively relive history? I’m confident you’ll get it correctly. By drinking, that is! What could be a better approach to reflect on our history than to drink with those who share similar experiences?

Meaning of “ Memories” song’s First Verse

This message is delivered by Adam and company from two different but equally powerful angles. The vocalist remembers a time when he “did not know pain” and “believed in forever” in the first stanza. He was content and incredibly upbeat. However, in the present, he becomes depressed at the mere mention of the addressee’s name.

This would suggest that the fact that the addressee was genuinely present during the aforementioned days was one of the reasons they were happier than other days.

We had no idea that things may shift significantly. The truth is that we were all focused on the idea that we could spend our entire lives playing in the park. That was a lie, I suppose. We must adjust with the times if we want to survive.

Do you recall our first time experiencing a crush? How about the time you lost your grandparents, who you assumed would always be there for you? Does your mind have a way of reacting to these stimuli?

I feel bad for failing to be able to talk to my crush and for not appreciating my grandparents more.

I sometimes long for their presence so I could revisit the times I really miss. That is, however, not possible. I can only relive my recollections by thinking back on the past. Making up my own version of what I would have done in its place is one of the many strategies I use to revisit the past. It occasionally works.

Meaning of “Memories “ song’s Second Verse

He begins the second stanza, though, by recalling a previous time when he “felt so lost” and had to deal with a horrifying amount of negativity. This sentiment could be seen as a continuation of the one that ended the first verse.  And he suggests that he has found greater optimism as he ends this part. And the possibility of seeing the addressee once more is what gives rise to this hope.

When was the last time you didn’t feel so lost, can you recall? It had to be incredible. Did you want to preserve that instant? I’m sure you did. But we are all human. We are bound to lose everything and everyone in our lives, including ourselves!

Do you recall the item we detested the most? Are you now laughing at that point? You most likely are. The best thing a human being can experience is a memory. It may bring up previous situations for us to experience again.

Meaning of the “ Memories” song’s Pre-Chorus and Chorus

It’s acceptable to miss the things from our past, the Pre-Chorus section reassures us. Everyone’s memories are different from one another. While some people have joyful recollections, others have tragic ones. But it’s good to feel wounded occasionally; everyone does.

We must keep in mind that nothing endures forever. Even the most severe agony we currently experience will eventually pass. Therefore, taking our time to reflect on the past is not necessarily a bad thing. We should be grateful that we have the ability to reflect on the past in order to reconsider making the same choices in the future.

The ability to remember the past allows one to alter their future.

The core of “Memories”

The song’s core is then revealed in the chorus itself. It takes place in a situation where the singer is having a few beers with dear friends while expressing his sincere gratitude for them. He also has “memories” of loved ones who aren’t present as a result of the circumstance (i.e., intoxication and companionship).

In that sense, his desire to reunite with the aforementioned people is what the entire song eventually comes down to. For whatever reason, his relationship with these people now just entails memories rather than face-to-face interactions.

WHO PRODUCED THE “MEMORIES”?

The Monsters & The Strangerz, a songwriting/production team who took home a Grammy in the US, worked with Adam Levine to produce the song. The song’s lyrics were also written by a few of the band members.

Additionally, this is not the duo’s first time working with Levine and Maroon 5.

When was the song “Memories”  released?

Maroon 5 released this song on September 20, 2019. The release was handled by 222 Records, a label owned by Adam Levine, and Interscope Records. It hadn’t been on any albums until “Memories” was published. However, it was expected that the song would appear on the band’s upcoming seventh album.

ADAM LEVINE’S COMMENTS ON THE SONG Memories

This song, according to Levine, is for everybody who has ever experienced the loss of a dearly loved one. The song’s lyrics are about Jordan Feldstein, Levine’s close friend and former Maroon 5 manager. In December 2017, Jordan passed away.

The song is absolutely for everyone, so I wanted to make sure I could personalize it and have it be about our manager, Adam Levine stated on the Howard Stern Show. He died just a short while ago. And since everything is still really raw, it’s difficult for me to kind of elaborate.

Not only is the song well-known for its prevailing gloomy mood, but it has also appeared in TV programmes including The Masked Singer and Grown-ish. It also appeared in the The One and Only Ivan official trailer.

Memories song lyrics

  • Here’s to the ones that we got
  • Cheers to the wish you were here, but you’re not
  • ‘Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
  • Of everything we’ve been through
  • Toast to the ones here today
  • Toast to the ones that we lost on the way
  • ‘Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
  • And the memories bring back, memories bring back you
  • There’s a time that I remember, when I did not know no pain
  • When I believed in forever, and everything would stay the same
  • Now my heart feel like December when somebody say your name
  • ‘Cause I can’t reach out to call you, but I know I will one day, yeah
  • Everybody hurts sometimes
  • Everybody hurts someday, ayy ayy
  • But everything gon’ be alright
  • Go and raise a glass and say, ayy
  • Here’s to the ones that we got
  • Cheers to the wish you were here, but you’re not
